The Challenge: Full Protection Without Excess Bulk

Many firefighters need maximum particulate and thermal protection but find standard-length hoods too bulky or restrictive, especially in high-mobility situations or during training. Traditional hoods force a compromise: either accept excessive fabric that bunches and restricts movement, or sacrifice coverage and protection. The additional length can interfere with SCBA straps and create uncomfortable pressure points.

Comprehensive Protection in a Streamlined Design

The BarriAire™ Carbon Shield™ Elite Pro Short hood delivers the same comprehensive particulate barrier protection as the standard Elite Pro but in a shorter, more streamlined length. Using patented technology, Carbon Shield™ knit fabric is gravure laminated to DuPont™ Nomex® Nano Flex, creating a composite that blocks 99.98% of harmful particles throughout the entire hood and bib while maintaining breathability. This shorter version eliminates excess bulk while maintaining full protective coverage.

Certified Performance: UL Classified to NFPA 1971 and certified to the 2018 Edition Option for Particulate Protection. Achieves 99.92% PFE before laundering and 99.98% after conditioning—far exceeding the ≥90% requirement.

Short-Length Engineering

Reduced Bulk Design: The Elite Pro Short provides the same comprehensive particulate barrier coverage but with approximately 2.5″ less length, reducing weight and bulk while maintaining full protection.

Patterned Bib Integration: The tapered back, notched shoulder drape, and carefully patterned bib perfectly interface with turnout collars and SCBA strapping, preventing gaps while allowing full range of motion.

Superior Breathability: With a Total Heat Loss (THL) of 395.3 W/m², this hood keeps you significantly cooler than standard barrier hoods, reducing heat stress during extended operations.

Carbon Shield™: Revolutionary Protection

Carbon Shield™ fabric is a flame-resistant breakthrough based on carbon fiber technology that simply won’t burn in air. Besides providing outstanding protection against direct flame, it exhibits low thermal conductivity, making it an excellent insulator. When laminated with Nomex® Nano Flex, it creates the ultimate composite for flame, heat, and particulate protection without sacrificing comfort.
